Saga Communications has continued its roll-out of its “Pure Oldies” brand across its portfolio as “Pure Oldies 96.9” W245BK Amherst/WLZX-HD3 Northampton MA becomes the eighth station within the company utilizing the format and branding.
Focusing on music of the 1950s and 60s, “Pure Oldies 96.9” replaces a simulcast of Liberal Talk 1400 WHMP Northampton/1240 WHMQ Greenfield. WHMP has signed on 101.5 W268CZ Northampton to replace 96.9 locally. W245BK joins Saga stations utilizing the format in Asheville, Champaign, Des Moines, Harrisonburg, Hilton Head, Ithaca, and Springfield IL and domain registrations pointing to more coming.

And now Pure Oldies on 96.9 FM.
Here in Hartford, CT we have we have just one Oldies station Kool 990/96.1, which sucks. They just spent more than 24 hours running a Dead Carrier over the holiday. They were off prior to 9:45AM on Monday the 28th and didn’t come back on til after 11AM Tuesday. The station is also a technical nightmare. There is a loud hum in the background behind the music. – It’s something with the computer that spits out the Oldies Music because the hum is not there when they run the Italian Show which originates from the Old Turnpike Road Studios in the Plantsville section of Southington. That hum was all you heard over the holiday (along with faint audio from their sisterhip-hop station Jammin 107.7). Not to mention the 3 voice tracked jocks, “The Wolfman Jack Show,” and the hourly news updates from Westwood One.
