Cox Media Group has appointed David Abel as Vice President/Market Manager of its San Antonio cluster.
Abel returns to Cox from Griffin Communications where he served as VP/Radio overseeing the Tulsa cluster it acquired last year from Scripps. Abel previously led the Tulsa cluster as GM under Scripps since November 2015. He has also served as VP/GM for Apex Broadcasting in Charleston SC where he also held the dual role of Chief Operating Officer of their New Point Digital subsidiary. He has also held sales manager roles for Cox Media Group in Birmingham, Greenville, and Orlando during his career.
He succeeds Ben Reed, who retired at the end of 2018.
Cox Media Group (CMG) has named David Abel as Vice President/Market Manager of its radio stations in San Antonio, TX. From this position, Abel will lead the development and advancement of the market and oversee operations at award-winning radio stations that include KISS 99.5, KONO 101.1, KTKX 106.7, KKYX 104.9, KCYY 100.3 and KSMG 105.3.
Abel joins the CMG San Antonio team as a 20-year radio veteran, most recently serving as Vice President of Radio with Griffin Communications in Tulsa, OK. Prior to that role he was VP/GM for Apex Broadcasting’s radio group in Charleston/Hilton Head, SC and also helped Apex launch new digital and IT companies, where he concurrently served as COO. Abel has a history as a member of the CMG family, having worked as a sales manager for 11 years in Greenville, Orlando and Birmingham. Abel began his radio career in sales and sales management in the New Orleans region.
Abel is a recognized industry leader and was honored in 2015 by Radio Ink Magazine as one of the “Best Managers in Radio”.
