Local Media San Diego Spins 760 KFMB To iHeartMedia For $1.2 Million

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 23, 2020

760 KFMB San Diego TEGNA iHeartMediaLocal Media San Diego has filed its sale of Talk 760 KFMB San Diego to iHeartMedia with the FCC.

iHeart will pay $1.2 million for KFMB, as LMSD recoups some of its original $5 million purchase price for the AM and Variety Hits “100.7 San Diego” KFMB-FM San Diego.

After the two days of simulcasting News/Talk 600 KOGO last week, KFMB relaunched its previous Talk lineup featuring the syndicated Armstrong & Getty in mornings, local hosts Mark Larson from 9am-12pm and Mike Slater 12-3pm, and Mark Levin and Red Eye Radio in evenings. Premiere Networks’ Buck Sexton has been added for afternoons to replace Brett Winterble, who recently moved to Entercom’s 1110 WBT Charlotte NC.

iHeartMedia San Diego announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Local Media San Diego to purchase and program AM 760 KFMB (KFMB-AM) in San Diego. AM 760 KFMB will join iHeartMedia San Diego’s roster of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — including 101.5 KGB, Channel 93.3, Rock 105.3, XTRA 1360, Star 94.1, News Radio 600 KOGO and JAM’N 95.7.

AM 760 KFMB will continue to broadcast its existing talk format and will retain the majority of its programming lineup including popular local hosts Mark Larson and Mike Slater as well as nationally recognized Armstrong & Getty.

“We are proud to add this iconic talk station to iHeartMedia San Diego’s portfolio of market-leading brands,” said Melissa Forrest, Market President iHeartMedia San Diego. “We look forward to working with AM 760’s talented, well-respected hosts and their listeners.”

Effective March 18, 2020, iHeartMedia resumed programming of AM 760 KFMB under a local marketing agreement. The company expects the transaction to be completed in approximately 60 days, after customary regulatory approvals are obtained.

Full Programming Lineup:
3 a.m. – 4 a.m. First Light
4 a.m. – 6a.m. America in the Morning
6 a.m. – 10 a.m. Armstrong & Getty
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The Mark Larson Show
12 p.m. – 3 p.m. The Mike Slater Show
3 p.m. – 6 p.m. The Buck Sexton Show
6 p.m. – 10 p.m. The Mark Levin Show
10 p.m. – 3 a.m. Red Eye Radio

Original Report 3/17: Local Media San Diego has announced it has closed on its $5 million purchase of Talk 760 KFMB and Variety Hits “100.7 San Diego” KFMB-FM San Diego from TEGNA.

Concurrent with the closing, the company has sold 760 KFMB to iHeartMedia which has imemdiately flipped the station to a temporary simulcast of News/Talk 600 KOGO via LMA. Prior to the 12pm transfer, KFMB host Mark Larson said the simulcast will last until Thursday when the station will resume its own Talk programming. Terms of the deal with iHeart have not yet been disclosed.

No changes have yet been made at KFMB-FM, nor have new call letters been applied for the stations (which will be required within 30 days).

Local Media San Diego is pleased to announce it has concluded its acquisition of KFMB-FM and AM from Tegna, Inc.

The stations will join “Z90” (XHITZ-FM), “91X” (XETRA-FM), and “Magic 92.5” (XHRM-FM) at LMSD headquarters in Sorrento Valley.

Local Media San Diego, LLC is a San Diego-based media company. In addition to radio properties, LMSD also owns and operates Local Media Digital Labs, a locally-focused digital solutions provider, Local Media San Diego Events for lifestyle event production, and offers in-house video and audio production.
