Update 4/1: Saga Communications launched Oldies “Pure Oldies 106.9” WRXS Brookfield/Milwaukee WI after two days of stunting on the former CHR “Energy 106.9” WNRG-FM.
Launching with Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools” and Beatles’ “Hard Days Night”, the new format creates a direct format competitor to Milwaukee Radio Alliance’s “Fonz-FM” 1270 WZTI Greenfield/100.3 W262CJ Milwaukee/107.3 W297BY Franklin and indirect to iHeartMedia Classic Hits “95.7 Big-FM” WRIT-FM, which has segued to being 1980s centric in recent years. The new format will focus on hits of the 60s and 70s.
Original Report 3/30:Â Saga Communications has pulled the plug on CHR “Energy 106.9” WNRG-FM Brookfield/Milwaukee WI.
The station began stunting at noon today with a robotic countdown clock counting down to Thursday, April 1 at 10:06am.
WNRG-FM had a 1.5 share in the February 2021 Nielsen Audio ratings trailing Audacy CHR “103.7 Kiss-FM” WXSS, which had a 4.2 share.
Saga applied on March 8 to the FCC to change WNRG-FM’s call letters to WRXS. We previously reported on an anonymous registration of PureOldies1069.com, which is now hosted on the same servers as Saga’s other properties.
