One Putt Broadcasting is moving Oldies 1430 KYNO Fresno to its 50kW 940 signal on Monday, July 19.
940 is currently home to Sports “940 ESPN” KFIG. While the call letters will move to 1430, it is not yet known if the Sports format will move the opposite direction on July 19.
One Putt is tying the move to 940 to the 75th anniversary of the launch of the original 1300 KYNO in 1946. The station was Top 40 from the late 50s until 1980. Then KYNO owner Gene Chenault hired programmer Bill Drake in 1963 leading to the creation of Drake-Chenault Enterprises consultancy that oversaw stations such as KHJ Los Angeles, KFRC San Francisco, WRKO Boston, and CKLW Windsor.

I lived in the SF bay Area all of my life and followed Top 40 on many radio since 1965.
Now KYNO at 940 Kcs is the only standing of what’s left of Top 40 combined for decades.
Tuned into the original KYNO at 1300Kcs and followed this great format to 1430 and now
to 940 Kcs. The enormous collection of records that KYNO Radio plays is no longer duplicated
by any radio station in California. I love the Christmas songs played each year on KYNO.
No California radio station does that either does that either. My modified Montgomery Ward Airline 11 transistor radio can pick up very well all over the AM Broadcast Band and KYNO
plays the best signal from Fresno California. I can receive KYNO from the SF Bay Area to
the Monterey Bay Area even in difficult reception times as the ionosphere permits .
KYNO has outlasted all rock-n-roll stations since the 1960’s especially when there were no
longer top 40 AM radio stations in the SF Bay Area. I hear KYNO playing oldies songs no radios
ever play. That is also what makes KYNO 940 Kcs famous for traditional top 40 multiplied
over all the years. To KYNO 940 Kcs, Keep the real oldies tradition alive, I will keep listening
at my old age of 78. Congratulations to KYNO 940 Kcs for four great years at 50,000 Watts
of power. since July 19, 2021. Wow !!!
