In February 2021, multiple station group owners dropped music from Morgan Wallen from their playlists after he was recorded using racial slurs, now Audacy Country 107.9 KMLE Chandler/Phoenix is going all-in on Wallen playing nothing but songs from his new album “One Thing At A Time” all weekend.
The stunt started at 8am this morning with KMLE rotating the 36 songs hyped by Brand Manager/afternoon host ‘Drew Blando’ Bland as a social media challenge. KMLE was followed by sister “93.1 The Wolf” WPAW Winston-Salem/Greensboro NC at 5pm. The moves marks a complete 180 degree turn for Wallen at radio after Audacy, Beasley Media, Cumulus Media, iHeartMedia and SiriusXM were among the station groups to pull all of Wallen’s music in February 2021 along with him being temporarily suspended by his record label and removed from many award shows that year. Despite the pullbacks, Wallen’s 2021 album “Dangerous: The Double Album” was the #1 album across all genres on the Billboard charts that year and his music gradually returned to radio a few months later.

Since KMLE streams to the Internet, don’t they need a DMCA waiver to play songs only from Morgan Wallen’s new album? Sony and Warner’s have waivers to the rules of no more than two (2) songs in a row by the same artiste and no more than three (3) songs from same artist in an hour.
