Update 11:40am: Entercom and iHeartMedia are following Cumulus Media’s lead and will be dropping Morgan Wallen’s music from their playlists.
iHeartMedia briefly responded, “In light of Morgan Wallen’s recent actions involving the use of a racial slur, we have made the decision to remove his music and content from our stations effective immediately.”. An Entercom spokesperson released the following statement, “In light of Morgan Wallen’s recent use of a racial slur, we’ve discussed the incident with our Country brand leadership team and together have made the decision to remove Morgan’s music from Entercom’s playlists.”
Beasley Media has also pulled Wallen’s music from their playlists today with the company stating, “We were deeply saddened and disappointed to hear of the recent comment made by Morgan Wallen. Beasley is a company that celebrates diversity, equity and inclusion. We have pulled his music from our seven country stations’ playlists.”
Original Report 8:00am: Following an incident on Sunday night where he was recorded using racial slurs, Cumulus Media has ordered the removal of his music from their playlists immediately.
In a memo sent to programmers last night and originally shared to Variety, EVP/Programming Brian Phillips and VP/Programming Operations John Dimick wrote, “Team, unfortunately country music star Morgan Wallen was captured on video Sunday evening using a racial slur. Effective immediately we request that all of Morgan Wallen’s music be removed from our playlists without exception. More to follow.”
Wallen currently has four of the top 150 songs in Country airplay. Variety also notes that Apple Music and Spotify have temporarily removed Wallen from their featured playlists.
