Former iHeartMedia Birmingham SVP/Programming ‘Major Tom’ Hanrahan is joining SummitMedia as Vice President of Country Programming and Talent Development and Program Director of Country 104.7 WZZK Birmingham.
Hanrahan spent two decades at iHeart Birmingham where he also served as PD/afternoon host at Country “102.5 The Bull” WDXB Pelham and AC “Magic 96.5” WMJJ. Hanrahan also previously served as OM of Clear Channel Panama City FL, Program Director of “South 106.1” WSTH Columbus GA, and worked on-air at multiple Birmingham stations including WMJJ, WZZK, WODL, and WKXX.
SummitMedia, LLC announced today that Tom Hanrahan is the new WZZK Program Director. In addition, he serves in a corporate role as Vice President of Country Programming and Talent Development.
Hanrahan joins SummitMedia from iHeartMedia, where he served as Alabama’s Area Senior Vice President of Programming for 25 years, the last 20 with the Birmingham cluster, programming WDXB. Hanrahan has driven and overseen multifaceted consumer engagement strategies for over three decades. In this new role, he combines his decades of experience and passion for Country music and the Birmingham market.

In his new corporate role, Hanrahan focuses on the strategy, goals, and programming execution for all of SummitMedia’s Country stations. He will work closely with Program Directors and Market Presidents to grow the brands they oversee.
