As BJ Shea concluded his seventeen year run on On his final show today on Audacy Rock 99.9 KISW Seattle he offered a brief glimpse into his radio future stating, “The company and I are parting ways. I don’t know the future, but I hope I have one.”
Shea reiterated that he intended to continue his radio career. Guests on the final show included WAIO Rochester host Brother Wease (whose show Shea worked on in the late 80s/early 90s), former KISW morning host Bob Rivers, Audacy SVP/Programming and former KISW Program Director Dave ‘Hairclub’ Richards, longtime 950 KJR morning host Mitch Levy, comedian Sarah Colonna and former Seattle Seahawk Jon Ryan, musician Duff McKagan, crosstown “Star 101.5” KPLZ morning hosts Curt Kruse and Jen Pirak, and the entire KISW airstaff.
KISW will launch a revamped morning show featuring Shea’s longtime producer turned co-host Steve Migs, a new co-host, and current producers Danny Vigil and Shea’s daughter Sara on Wednesday, January 3.
Update: Shea will join iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK on January 8.
Original Report 12/11: After seventeen years in mornings at Audacy Rock 99.9 KISW Seattle, BJ Shea will depart its morning show on Friday, December 15.
Shea began his career at multiple stations in the Boston area before joining Brother Wease’s Show at WCMF Rochester NY. He would depart in 1992 for stints at KRQR San Francisco, WIVY Jacksonville, and KZZP Phoenix before returning to WCMf as afternoon host in 1997. Shea would arrive in Seattle in 1999 to host middays at Hot Talk “100.7 The Buzz” KQBZ before being fired and rehired the following year. Following the demise of KQBZ at the end 2005, Shea moved to mornings at co-owned KISW in January 2006. Steve Migs would join the show then as producer before rising to co-host with the show being renamed from “BJ Shea Morning Experience” to “BJ & Migs” in 2014.
