After 27 years with Radio One and their Reach Media syndicated unit, Russ Parr is exiting the “Russ Parr Morning Show”.
Parr shared, “As we conclude the remarkable journey of the Russ Parr Morning Show, a journey that spanned over 27 years, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude and anticipation. These years have been filled with mornings of laughter, engaging conversations, and moments that will forever be etched in our memories. We extend our deepest thanks to Cathy Hughes, Alfred Liggins, and the entire team at Urban 1 for the extraordinary opportunity to be a part of your airwaves. This journey has been nothing less than phenomenal.” Parr says he will be focusing on writing and directing movies, debut a YouTube show with members of his show, and launching a podcast “You Probably Don’t Want To Hear This” with his wife Darnell Parr.
Parr began his career as a actor, comedian, and musician before joining 1580 KDAY Los Angeles as morning host in the late 80s. He moved to “100.3 Jamz” KJMZ Dallas in 1989 before joining Radio One’s 93.9 WKYS Washington DC in 1996 and adding syndication a decade later. Parr would move his flagship to Adult R&B “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ Washington in 2015.
Radio One has yet to comment on the deaprture or announce its plans for the timeslot. Among Parr’s current affiliates are Radio One’s “Classix 107.9” WPPZ Philadelphia, and “1230 The Buzz” WDBZ Cincinnati, iHeartMedia’s “92.1 The Beat” WHBT Norfolk, and Cumulus Media’s 104.1 WDLT Mobile AL.
