A little over a year after Jeff Ziesmann’s Grant County Broadcasters $4.5 million sale of 105.9 WNKN Middletown OH to Relevant Radio, Randy Michaels has brought the station’s former Oldies “The Oasis” format back to the Cincinnati market.

After closing on his Radioactive LLC’s $1.8 million purchase of 97.7 WOXY Mason OH from Lazo Media, Michaels flipped the station to a simulcast of Grant County Broadcasters’ “106.7 The Oasis” WNKR Williamstown KY.

Positioning as “Where The Music Went”, the brand focuses on music from the 1960s through 80s with an emphasis on the 70s. WNKR assumed the Oasis format and branding in September 2023 just ahead of the closing of the sale of WNKN. While WNKN was a Class B covering the majority of the Cincinnati and Dayton markets, WOXY is only a Class A covering the area between the two cities. WNKN with the “Oasis” brand was successful registering a 2.1 share in Cincinnati and a 3.2 share in Dayton in the July 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings.

Michaels told WVXU, “Jeff Ziesmann is a master of serving and selling the audience in the metro collar often ignored by other broadcasters. While every other station chases a younger audience, The Oasis serves the people who have the most money and the people most likely to use radio. The age 45+ audience is often ignored by the cookie-cutter corporate stations.”
