After a couple days of stunting with a loop of Lynyrd Skynrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”, Kensington Digital Media relaunched “Rock 100.5” WJRL-FM Slocomb/Dothan AL as “100.5 The Bear” at 2pm today.
Operating under new WDAB call letters, the station is now positioning as “Bama’s Best Rock” with core artists including Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana. Station Manager Amie Pollard said, “This relaunch is more than a rebrand; it’s about raising the bar for rock radio in Alabama. The Bear is strong, unapologetic, and built for real rock fans — and that’s exactly what we aim to be.”
The station will feature a new lineup led by Audio 1’s syndicated “Jason Lee & Kluck” morning show based at Federated Media Rock “103.9 The Bear” WRBR-FM South Bend IN. ‘Big Sexy’ will host middays with former morning host ‘Squirrel’ moving to afternoons. Compass Media Networks’ “Loudwire Nights” hosted by Chuck Armstrong is added for evenings.
Kensington Digital Media COO Woody Zimmerman commented, “When we decided to relaunch our rock station, Jason Lee & Kluck quickly became the obvious choice They dominate the male audience in their markets, and Audio1 makes it very easy to automate the show. Jason Lee & Kluck are honest, unfiltered, and a lot of fun. They are the morning radio fix your audience didn’t know they needed.”
Along with the call letter change at 100.5, sister Classic Hits “102.5 The Q” WESP Dothan has changed to the more brand matching WLDQ. Kensington Digital Media purchased the stations along with Adult R&B “Magic 93.1” WBBK-FM Blakely GA and Country “B105.3” WECB Headland AL for $1.25 million last year.
