Woodward Community Media flipped Hot AC “99.7 The Mix” WXAJ Hillsboro/Springfield IL to Classic Hits “99.7 CVS” this morning.
Positioning as “#1 For Classic Hits”, the station has resurrected the WCVS-FM call letters that were most recently in use on Variety Hits “96.7 Bob-FM” until that station’s sale to K-Love Inc. as part of Woodward’s acquisition of Mid-West Family Broadcasting’s Springfield cluster to combine with its previous purchase of Neuhoff Media in 2024.
The station is focusing on music from the 1970s through early 90s. The launch took place at 7:45 this morning with Boys II Men’s “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” and N’Sync’s “Tearing Up My Heart” leading into the launch with the new format debuting with Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘N Roll”, Queen “We Are The Champions”, Howard Jones “Things Can Only Get Better”, and Peter Frampton “Baby, I Love Your Way”. PD/morning host Bondsy remains in place.
Woodward had flipped Classic Hits “102.5 The Lake” 970 WMAY/102.5 W273DR Springfield back to a simulcast of News/Talk 92.7 WMAY-FM Taylorville on Friday.
Market Manager Kevin O’Dea said, “We’re committed to delivering high-quality, locally relevant content that reflects the spirit of Springfield. These updates allow us to better serve our community with both timeless music and trusted news coverage.”
