Following the exits of Danny Dwyer and Jake Byron last week, Alpha Media Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL Portland has announced the addition of Jamie Tanchyk as midday host starting Monday, July 28.
Tanchyk most recently served in the dual role of Brand Manager of Hot AC “Bella 105” KRSK and afternoon host at Country “99.5 The Wolf” KWJJ until exiting in Audacy’s March layoffs. He originally joined then “105.1 The Buzz” KRSK in February 2020 and added KWJJ in March 2024. He previously served as APD/midday host at Rhythmic Hot AC “Hot 103.7” KHTP Seattle from 2014 until November 2021. Tanchyk began his career in Albany NY with stints as night host at Rhythmic “Jamz 96.3” WAJZ and APD/nights at CHR “Fly 92” WFLY. He then moved back to WAJZ as Program Director and would also program AAA “104.9 The Peak” WZMR, 90s Hits “105.7 Crush-FM” WQSH and Hip Hop “Hot 99.1” WQSH-HD2 during his time in the market, while also hosting weekends at CHR “103.3 Amp Radio” WODS Boston.
Content Director Ross MacLeod said, “Bringing Jamie to KUPL is a strategic win for The Bull. He’s got deep experience across multiple formats, strong local equity in Portland, and a track record of programming and performance success. He understands what makes this market tick, and he’s exactly the kind of talent who can strengthen our connection with listeners and grow the brand.”
Tanchyk commented, “After months of answering questions like ‘Where do you see yourself in five years?’ and ‘Have you ever worked a grill?’ — I’m pumped to be back on the air with Portland’s incredible country fans. Big thanks to Ross MacLeod, Dylan Salisbury, Phil Becker, and Robert Dove — not just for giving me this shot, but for pretending to be fascinated every time I bring up my chihuahuas. That’s what I call leadership… or at least patience.”
