After exiting middays at Audacy Alternative 106.7 KROQ after a 22 year run earlier this year, Nicole Alvarez is joining iHeartMedia’s “Alt 98.7” KYSR for fill-ins.
Alvarez had been with KROQ from 2003 until departing in August. During that time she rose from overnights to nights and then middays during her two decade plus run at the station. She also tracked for additional Audacy Alternative stations during her tenure. The Miami native began her career with brief stints at WPLA Jacksonville and WZTA Miami. At KYSR, she reunites with former KROQ APD/MD Lisa Worden, who now serves as SVP/Alternative and Rock Programming for iHeart, and afternoon host Ted Stryker.
Worden said, “I have had the pleasure of working with Nicole in the past and am lucky to call her a dear friend. She is one of the most fiercely passionate music advocates I’ve ever met and also a savage wordsmith. She’s been a ‘Voice of L.A.’ for 23 years, and I couldn’t be more excited to have her on the ALT 98.7 airwaves!”
Alvarez will make her debut on KYSR on Monday, December 22 in middays from 10am to 2pm filling in for Christin Limon for the week and then in afternoons the following week. She commented, “After 23 years in Los Angeles radio, I’ve learned that real chapters don’t close, they level up. I’m deeply grateful for everything KROQ gave me, and completely clear about what’s next. Alt 98.7 is the future, built by people I trust and respect. I look forward to working alongside the esteemed ‘The Woody Show,’ being reunited with my friends and former coworkers Chris Booker and Ted Stryker and filling in for the incredible Christen Limon. I’ve watched this team build their brand as a united front with massive success under the leadership of Lisa Worden, with the full force of iHeartRadio behind it. I plan to be their biggest ally. I’m walking in focused, grounded and ready to do the best work of my career. Proud to be a special guest in their house. To quote the band that understood the assignment best this year: ‘Hello, hello, it’s good to be back, it’s good to be back.’ – Oasis.”
