The partnership agreement between California State University Northridge AAA “The SoCal Sound” KCSN Northridge/Los Angeles and South Orange County Community College District’s Saddleback College’s 88.5 KSBR Mission Viejo will come to an end as the latter is being donated to Northridge.
Cal State University-Northridge and Saddleback entered an operating agreement in September 2017 expanding KCSN’s AAA programming to both signals as “The New 88.5“, while at the time placing most of KSBR’s programming on HD2. After an attempt in 2019 to find a third party operator for both stations never went anywhere, the stations rebranded in August 2022 as “The Socal Sound“.
Saddleback will now donate the licenses of KSBR and translators 89.1 K206AA Laguna Beach and 89.5 K208AM Newport Beach to Cal State Northridge. Stating in the agreement that both parties have agreed to terminate the operating agreement for business reasons and that in light of the termination Saddleback has determined that operation of the stations no longer fits with its educational objectives and wishes to see the continuation of broadcast service to the public via the facilities of the stations. To finalize shared costs at closing Saddleback will pay Northridge $281,548.
