When Audacy flips Rhythmic Throwbacks “104.3 Jams” WBMX Chicago to a simulcast of Sports “670 The Score” WSCR on February 2, its WBMX call letters will return to its former home in Boston on Hot AC “Mix 104.1” WWBX.
The WBMX call letters first gained notoriety in Chicago on then-Urban 102.7 WBMX from 1974 until its flip to Adult R&B “V103” WVAZ in 1988. It would have a much longer run in Boston starting in February 1991 when “Mix 98.5” launched. The call letters would move with the format to 104.1 in August 2009 and everything remained stable until the day Entercom completed its acquisition of CBS Radio in November 2017. “104.3 Jams” launched claiming the WBMX Chicago legacy and swiping the calls from their well-established sister in Boston.
Now with the call letters having served a cumulative 23 years in Chicago and 26 years in Boston, they will return on February 2 to the market where it has still spent more time.
