University of Southern California has completed the combination of its Los Angeles based KUSC and San Francisco based KDFC networks into a unified statewide Classical programming service.
The newly united “Classical California” says, “We’re doubling down on our love for the communities we’ve always served, but we’re also stepping up to do more. Many towns and cities across California don’t have a local classical music radio station anymore. Through our digital platforms, Classical California is here to bring beautiful music to anyone, anywhere, while celebrating the arts across the state.”
The stations had combined their on-air lineups last October, but had continued with separate programming feeds until Monday, February 16. Former KUSC morning host Jennifer Miller Hammel will anchor mornings from 4-9am. Previous KDFC morning host Maggie Clennon Reberg will follow from 9am to 12pm. KUSC’s Alan Chapman will follow from 12-3pm. San Francisco based Dianne Nicolini will be heard from 3-5pm. Brian Lauritzen will anchor 5-8pm. Los Angeles based Lara Downes will host nights from 8pm to 12am.
Classical California President James Muhammad said, “This launch reflects a simple belief: classical music belongs in everyday life. Through familiar voices and extraordinary music, we invite listeners into something vibrant, warm, and deeply human.”
Classical California is heard on 91.5 KUSC Los Angeles, 90.3 KDFC San Francisco, 88.5 KPSC Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC Thousand Oaks/Ventura, 93.7 KDB Santa Barbara, 99.7 KESC Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo, 89.9 KDFL Livermore, 89.9 KOSC Angwin/Santa Rosa, 103.9 KDFG Seaside/Monterey, 104.9 KXSC Sunnyvale/San Jose, and 92.5 K223AJ Lakeport/Ukiah.
