Report: KUSC & KDFC To Consolidate Into Statewide Network

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
February 12, 2025

91.5 KUSC Los Angeles 90.3 KDFC San Francisco Classical CaliforniaThe University of Southern California is planning on consolidating its two regional Classical networks in California into one programming service.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the networks based at 91.5 KUSC Los Angeles and 90.3 KDFC San Francisco will brand simply as “Classical California” with the same programming on both. The staffs of both stations will be retained with both Los Angeles and San Francisco studios remaining.

Classical California President James Muhammad told the Times, “We have world-class on-air talent and what we’d like is for our entire network to be able to have access to that talent.” He continued, “There are a number of processes where there are duplication of efforts. Through the savings of time we can provide more services and experiences for our donors.”

The Times notes that both stations were separately profitable in 2024 with KUSC brining in $10.4 million in revenue with $9.8 million in expenses, while KDFC’s $7.3 million in revenue covered its $7 million in expenses.

KUSC is currently also heard on 88.5 KPSC Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC Thousand Oaks/Ventura, 93.7 KDB Santa Barbara, and 99.7 KESC Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo. KDFC is heard on 89.9 KOSC Angwin/Santa Rosa, 103.9 KDFG Seaside/Monterey, 104.9 KXSC Sunnyvale/San Jose, and 92.5 K223AJ Lakeport/Ukiah.
