iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 710 WOR New York has added veteran personality Curtis Sliwa to its morning show to co-host with Larry Mendte starting Monday, March 9.
“Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning” will air weekdays from 6-10am. Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels who recently ran for mayor of New York, has been a fixture on Talk radio in the market since 1990 mostly associated with 770 WABC, but has also hosted shows for WNYC and WNYM.
He commented, “It’s been four months since the end of the New York City Mayoral election and most places I go people have asked me to come back to talk radio, so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to the best radio station in New York City, joining my friends of 30 years Mark Simone and Sean Hannity. It’s a full circle moment for me as my first radio station appearance for me was in 1971 when WOR’s Arlene Francis interviewed me as a kid, and I’ve been talking on the radio since.”
Mendte joined WOR as News Director in August 2023 and took over mornings in January 2025. A longtime television newscaster with stops including a weekend anchor WABC-TV New York in the 1980s and then at WPIX from 2010-12, Mendte spent most of his career in his native Philadelphia at WCAU-TV from 1997-2003, KYW-TV from 2003-2008 until being fired for accessing his former co-anchor’s email, and then hosting mornings on Merlin Media’s “IQ 106.9” WWIQ in 2012. He also was the first co-host of the syndicated “Access Hollywood” in 1996 and has also had radio stints hosting mornings at 1450 WILM Wilmington DE and weekends at WABC New York.
Mendte commented, “I couldn’t be more excited. Curtis is not only a legendary talk radio host, but an iconic New Yorker. What an honor to get to team up with him to get New Yorkers started every weekday.”
Natalie Vacca will serve as Executive Producer for the new show.
Program Director Tom Cuddy added, “Curtis is a true New York original. His passion and knowledge of the city, combined with Larry’s incredible journalistic background, make them the ideal team to wake up New York. We are thrilled to have this powerhouse duo leading the
morning charge for WOR.”
