Domain Insight 9/7: Big Changes Coming To Atlanta & Las Vegas?

[membership level="2,3"] For the past couple of weeks rumors have been swirling about the future of Entercom Hot AC " Star 94.1 " WSTR Smyrna/Atlanta GA. Most of the rumors have centered around WSTR flipping to Variety Hits utilizing the " Big " branding just like Entercom did at 103.3 Boston in May. Big941Atlanta.com was registered anonymously last Thursday, but with the domain pointing to Cumulus CHR " Q99.7 " WWWQ it is likely someone at Cumulus squatted on the domain, however a second domain of Big94Atlanta.com was anonymously registered on Friday and is currently pointing to WSTR's site. Variety Hits would help fill the Classic Hits hole in the Atlanta market and position WSTR between Cox Media Group's combination of second ranked Classic Rock " 97.1 The River " WSRV and sixth place AC " B98.5 " WSB-FM. The station currently ranks seventeenth overall in the Atlanta market with a 2.1 share. Entercom Alternative " X107.5 " KXTE Pahrump/Las Vegas may also be on the verge of a format change or at minimum a rebranding. Registrations were made on Friday for the following domains: 1075TheWolf.com , 1075TheWolfLV.com , Alt1075.com , Alt1075LasVegas.com , Alt1075LV.com , Alt1075Vegas.com , and Big1075LV.com . Based on the number of domains and recent history, the most likely scenario would be for KXTE to join its Entercom sister stations in Dallas, New York, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento under the " Alt " brand. The other two domains would like be used with a wholesale format change at KXTE. The " Big " brand would bring Variety Hits back to Vegas for the first time since Beasley flipped 107.9 KVGS to Hot AC in 2015. If Entercom were to flip KXTE to " The Wolf ", it likely would be thanks to iHeartMedia dropping the format on " 95.5 The Bull " KWNR. KWNR currently has no locally based on-air staffers, although the company hired former Alpha Media Country format captain MoJoe Roberts as its new Program Director two weeks ago . KXTE, the homebase of the syndicated "Dave & Mahoney" morning show, currently is sixteenth overall in the Las Vegas market with a 2.6 share. [/membership]
