FCC Update Translator Construction Permit Applications

Chicago Public Media’s 91.3 W217BM Chicago has applied to move to 91.1. The translator will continue to operate with 99 watts from the John Hancock Center and rebroadcasting an HD subchannel of 91.5 WBEZ. The translator’s coverage should cover much of the city of Chicago.

Radio-One’s 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville, GA which serves as part of the Urban AC “Majic 107.5/97.5” Urban AC simulcast has applied for a very minor change to its signal. The station will increase power from 7.9 to 8.5kW while dropping antenna height from 175 to 165 meters. No major changes in its coverage as it moves to a new tower less than half a mile from its current one.

Clear Channel’s 94.3 W232CB Frederick, MD continues its slow move towards Washington, DC. Its newest application crosses the Montgomery County line into the Washington market with 99 watts from Germantown, MD.

EMF Broadcasting’s 96.7 W244BY Memphis has requested that its current CP to operate with 250 watts in downtown Memphis be cancelled and instead has applied to relocate the translator to the tower of their 94.9 WKVF in Bartlett, TN. The translator will continue to broadcast EMF’s “Air1” Christian CHR network via Clear Channel’s KJMS-HD3.

Some of the 2003 translator applications have begun being granted and already the change applications and sales have begun.

Community Broadcasting was granted 104.5 K283BW Oklahoma City which will operate with 250 watts. The translator was then sold to Tyler Media for $125,000 who will use it to rebroadcast an HD subchannel of 92.5 KOMA.

EMF Broadcasting was granted 94.3 W232CH Raleigh with 99 watts from the tower of 93.9 WKSL in Apex, NC. It has now applied to move to Raleigh proper where it will operate with 97 watts.

Among the other new 2003 applications approved are:

Clear Channel gains 99.5 K258CI Portland/Mason City, IA.

Community Broadcasting receives 102.3 K272FD Del City/Oklahoma City rebroadcasting 800 KQCV.

Ted McCall, who has been leasing some of his Greenville, SC are translators to Cox (Now Summit Media) has gained a CP for 102.1 W271BS Greenville with 32 watts.

Hope Christian Church of Marlton, NJ gains two translators in the Atlantic City area. 97.7 W249CM Marmora and 104.1 W281BH Absecon will both rebroadcast Christian AC “Hope FM” 90.5 WVBV Medford Lakes
