Update 6/5: The imaging-less CHR format that debuted in late May is the new format for WJSJ.
A Facebook page brands the station as “Coast 105.3” positioned as “Nassau County’s Hit Music Station”. Nassau County is just north of Jacksonville where WJSJ’s signal is based. It gives the market a third CHR along with Cox Media’s 95.1 WAPE and Clear Channel’s “97.9 Kiss-FM” WNWW.
Original Report 5/26: Classic Country “Real Country 105.3” WJSJ Fernadina Beach/Jacksonville has dropped its format and is currently stunting with an imaging-less CHR mix.
The station wrote of Facebook that the change was due lack of advertiser support:
It is with a heavy heart we must announce that due to a lack of sufficient advertiser support we will have to make a format change effective 6/1. We have enjoyed bringing you Real Country but running a radio station is an expensive proposition and without advertisers we just cannot continue. We value each and every listener and thank you all for your support.
WJSJ flipped to Classic Country in October 2013 Ardman Broadcast Partners began operating the station via LMA. Morning Host Leroy Boomer, best known for his long run at Clear Channel’s 99.1 WQIK exits with the end of the Classic Country format.
Listened to the stream for a little while yesterday. Unless they’re trying to sound like Pandora and cold segging everything on purpose I just don’t get this.
