Mount Wilson FM has dropped the Classical “K-Mozart” programming from 1240 KNRY Monterey, CA and is currently stunting with non-stop Frank Sinatra as it prepares to flip to Adult Standards “Unforgettable 1240” on Monday, March 30.
The station lists Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Harry Connick, Jr.,Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Mel Tormè, Rosemary Clooney, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Steve Lawrence as core artists in addition to current artists Steve Tyrell, Diana Krall, and Michael Bublé and local “favorite” Doris Day.
The Classical programming that had been heard on KNRY will continue on 95.1 K236BK Monterey and 95.9 KMZT-FM Big Sur.
Responding to the interest in the great songs of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway and Hollywood, The Great American Songbook returns to Monterey and the Central Coast, but with a modern twist. The original recordings will be performed, but also with modern interpretations by such current artists as Steve Tyrell, Diana Krall, and Michael Bublé.
Our local favorite Doris Day, will be heard often as well as Frank Sinatra and the entire “Rat Pack”. We are celebrating 2015 as the 100th birthday of Frank Sinatra which means a lot of Sinatra.
The KNRY format is called ‘Unforgettable’ and will also feature Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Harry Connick, Jr., Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Mel Tormè, Rosemary Clooney, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Steve Lawrence and dozens of others.
KNRY 1240 broadcasts from world famous, historic, Cannery Row and covers the Central Coast.
KNRY is operated by the owner of KYZZ Country 97.9/106.7, KBOQ Classic Hits 103.9, and KMozart Classical 95.1
Based on Radio-Locator.com maps, it has a pretty good signal for a 1,000-watt AM station on 1240 kilohertz.
105.1 HD 2 has also dropped K-MOZART here in Los Angeles in favour of Unforgettable.
Could Saul Levine (Mt. Wilson broadcasters) purchase AM 630 KIDD frequency from Beasley? I think the 610 frequency is a better frequency than 1240 am.
You mean Buckley Broadcasting, which had the KIDD towers torn down last weekend.
And 610 is already occupied by KEAR in the Bay Area.
KIDD hasn’t been deleted yet, though, and theoretically Mt. Wilson (or whoever) could file a CP MOD. According to the last article here on KIDD, that’s just what Buckley is trying to do — sell the frequency.
Doris Day lives in Carmel-by-the-Sea, so I guess that’s what they mean by “local”. (Are they big Clint Eastwood fans too?)
Correction: KKGO HD3 has dropped Country Classics in favour of Unforgettable.. KMozart is still on HD 2 here.
105.1 – HD 3
Thanks for the update about KMozart still being on 105.1 HD 2 in LA.
I was wondering what HD signal KMozart is now on in Monterey, CA. They must be on one to feed their 95.1 translator.
