Update 8/26: After stunting for an hour with Oldies songs featuring the word Walk to bridge the formats, W255CJ flipped to “Oldies 98.9” at 12pm today. The station launched with programming from Scott Shannon’s True Oldies Channel with the Rolling Stones “Jumping Jack Flash”.
Original Report 8/25: One year ago this week, the Atlanta market was shaken-up as Clear Channel and Cumulus combined on multiple format changes.
Now, Cumulus’ 98.9 W255CJ looks to be headed to its third format in a calendar year. After going from Alternative to Active Rock last Labor Day Weekend, and then to a mix of Christian AC and Country in February, the station is preparing to make another move. Over the past few days, Cumulus has registered 989TrueOldiesChannel.com, TrueOldiesChannel989.com, TrueOldies989.com, and Oldies989Atlanta.com as well as .net and .org variations.
A flip to the True Oldies Channel network programming will bring the format back to the Atlanta market for the first time since Cumulus’ 106.7 WYAY flipped from Classic Hits to News in May 2012.
