The Border Media Business Trust has begun the process of selling off its Austin cluster piece by piece.
“ESPN 1530” KZNX Creedmor has been sold to El Paso based America Telecommunications Group, Inc for $600,000. America Telecommunications Group owns 95.1 K236AY Westlake Hills which had been distributing programming from BMP’s 104.9 KTXX-HD4. 95.1 carried Spanish Women’s Talk programming “Radio Mujer” based out of Promomedio’s 1040 XEBBB Guadalajara, MX which appears to share common management with America Telecommunications Group. Gonzalo Cárdenas Barba is listed as Secretary of ATG on the FCC filing of the purchase and General Director of Promomedio.
“ESPN Deportes 92.5” KXXS Elgin goes to EMF Broadcasting with an immediate flip to their Christian AC “K-Love” under new KVLR call letters. EMF is acquiring the station for $750,000 with an additional $250,000 to be paid if the station gets FCC approval and builds out its application to change COL to Sunset Valley with a new tower site in Austin proper. 92.5 KVLR joins what is now an Austin rimshot quadcast with 91.9 KLLR Dripping Springs southwest of the city, 92.1 KYLR Hutto to the northeast, and 106.3 KMLR Gonzales south of Austin.
The Border Trust should have other deals filed with the FCC shortly for the remainder of the Austin cluster which does include a new addition. 105.5 K288FJ Bastrop has completed its move-in to Austin and has been acquired from Big Bend Broadcasting for $250,000 to simulcast Sports “104.9 The Horn” KTXX Bee Cave. Border Media also operates 104.9 simulcaster 1260 KWNX Taylor, and Classic Hits “98.9 Austin’s Greatest Hits” KXBT Leander in the Austin market. With pending sales at its other clusters, the Border Trust will only have its San Antonio area properties remaining following the selloffs in Austin.
You left out K-Love’s KMLR 106.3 Gonzales which serves the south part of the Austin metro. So now there are four K-LOVEs. Also FM 95.1 did carry Radio Mujer but has been off the air for several months now.
Fred,
Thank you for the corrections. From what I hear Radio Mujer or one Promomedio’s other networks should be back on via 1530 and 95.1 shortly.
Do we know when 105.5 will be up? And I has it moved closer to Austin? If not, it’ll pretty much useless for anyone here.
I was told that 105.5 was on the air last week simulcasting 104.9. The translator applied for a license to cover for the new location on June 26.
Concurrently, 104.9 applied for its license for its new tower location further west of Austin on June 19. Niether have been approved by the FCC yet.
Is ESPN 1530 moving to a new frequency or is it gone?
Yea radio mujer is back in Austin 15:30 am super
Radio Mujer should be back on 95.1 pretty soon. Its going to be fiesta 97.1 sister station.
