PMC Broadcasting launched Urban “Hot 97.9” 750 WAUG New Hope/W250AZ Raleigh NC last week.

The station is targeting Urban One’s “K97.5” WQOK Carrboro, which had been the only Hip-Hop station in the market. Operated by translator owner Damian ‘DY Nasty’ Powell, the stations is emphasizing local and independent artists and mixes.

W250AZ was moved from Rocky Mount to Raleigh last year and had been rebroadcasting Classical 89.7 WCPE Raleigh as filler. WAUG, which had been operating as Urban Talk “Power 750“, is owned by Saint Augustine’s University.
