Ideastream Public Media has entered into a partnership with Cleveland State University to operate 89.3 WCSB Cleveland OH.
With the move the station has flipped from a student operated College Alternative to Jazz “JazzNEO” simulcasting 90.3 WCLV-HD2. The arrangement will include the two organizations developing paid and for-credit learning opportunities — including a wide selection of internships in journalism, television and radio production, marketing and graphic design on the University’s campus.
CSU President Laura Bloomberg said, “The decision to have Ideastream oversee WCSB programming is one step forward in our Cleveland State United vision, the strategic plan for our university launched earlier this year. CSU is uniquely embedded within the city of Cleveland, which provides students with opportunities to benefit from strategic partnerships like this one. We look forward to working with Ideastream to expand access to experiential and work-based learning.”
Ideastream President/CEO Kevin Martin commented, “Jazz is one of America’s most original art forms – and by expanding its reach on the airwaves, we’re ensuring this music remains vibrant, accessible, and part of the cultural fabric of our community. We are deeply grateful to Cleveland State University’s partnership in making this possible.”
Ideastream also operates Public News/Talk 89.7 WKSU Kent/104.9 WCPN Lorain, Classical 90.3 WCLV Cleveland and WVIZ-TV Cleveland.
In a video announcing the end of their programming, student General Manager Allison Bomgardner commented that they were told in a meeting this morning that “the station as a student organization is now defunct.” They continued that with the station about to celebrate their 50th anniversary, “We will continue on-air until Cleveland State University and the Center For Campus Engagement can take us out of this facility.”
