Adams Preps Delmarva Changes

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 11, 2015

Adams Radio Salisbury Ocean City Delmarva Big 98.5 Classic Rock 107.7 WGBG Hot Country WKHIAs Adams Radio finally closes on its acquisition of six stations and two translators from Great Scott Broadcasting, the company is swiftly moving to implement changes.

Phil LoCascio joins the company as Market Manager. LaCascio was Operations Manager for Millennium Radio Group’s Jersey Shore stations from 2003 to 2008 and previously programmed CBS Classic Rock 94.7 WARW Washington, DC and Cox AC “B98.5” WSB-FM Atlanta. Current Great Scott General Manager Jim McHugh stays on as Director of Sales, while Jeff Evans remains in his General Sales Manager position.

Adams will also be heavily reshaping the formats at its new cluster. While Active Rock “93.5 The Beach” WZBH and Rhythmic CHR “OC 104” 103.9 WOCQ will remain as-is, the other four stations will have new formats on the way. Classic Rock “Big 98.5” WGBG get an upgrade to the soon-to-be-built 23.5kW signal currently held by “Hot Country 107.7” WKHI Fruitland, MD. 900 WJWL/96.3 W242AV have dropped their simulcast of “Maxima 95.3” WKDB and have picked up the Spanish Variety Hits “Juan” brand. Adams’ Salisbury-Ocean City market page lists new stations coming soon to 98.5 and 1280 WJWK/100.3 W262BF.

Adams Radio Group has closed on the acquisition of the majority of assets held by Great Scott Broadcasting in Salisbury – Ocean City, MD. Kalil & Company was the broker in the transaction. The acquisition includes: WGBG-FM and WJWK-AM (both licensed to Seaford, DE), WJWL-AM and WZBH-FM (both licensed to Georgetown, DE), WKHI-FM (licensed to Fruitland, MD), and WOCQ-FM (licensed to Berlin, MD). The deal also includes FM Translators W242AV and W262BF.

Ron Stone, President and CEO of Adams said “We are extremely excited that we have finally closed on this market. They say good things come to those who wait…and wait we did! This cluster represents a rare opportunity with amazing unlocked value. These stations are a great compliment to our company’s other markets.”

This is the fourth market for Adams Radio Group since reentering the radio business. Adams owns and operates clusters in Las Cruces, NM, Fort Wayne, IN and suburban Chicago area in Northwest Indiana referred to as “The Region”.

Phil LoCascio, Adams Market Manager, added: “You can only imagine my excitement to finally get to work! Sitting on the sidelines for 2 months was gut wrenching…but worth the wait. We are inheriting a great core team that is extremely happy to move on to the next chapter and create GREAT radio on the Delmarva Pennisula!”
