Cox Media Group has flipped Alternative “X107.1” WTSH-FM Aragon/W296BB Jonesboro/Atlanta to Country.
Positioned as “Your Georgia Country 106.1/107.1” the duo is simulcasting sister 106.1 WNGC-FM Arcade/Athens. The flip gives the Atlanta market its fourth Country station joining iHeartMedia’s “94.9 The Bull” WUBL and Cumulus’ duo of “Kicks 101.5” WKHX and “98.9 Nash Icon” W255CJ.
WNGC will lose syndicated morning host Moby with the addition of the 107.1 simulcast. Walker moves from middays to mornings.
“X107.1” had launched one year and one week ago as the second Alternative formatted station in the market when Cox began leasing the former Country “South 107” from Womens World Broadcasting. It failed to gain any traction up against iHeartMedia’s “Radio 105.7” WRDA/96.7 WRDG generating only a 0.5 share in the May 2015 Nielsen Audio ratings. Dave Clapper, Program Director of WTSH and sister Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV exited earlier this month.
Cox Media Group (CMG) Radio has launched its new “Your Georgia Country” radio station in Atlanta, Athens and across north Georgia. The new station will serve listeners from Atlanta, Athens, Rome, and all areas north across the entire state on FM signals 106.1, a heritage country radio station that has been serving Athens and Northeast Georgia for over 40 years, and 107.1.
“Your Georgia Country” also will be the largest country signal in the Southeast with 200,000 watts of power on 106.1 and 107.1 FM. Featured artists include classic and new country stars like Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, George Strait and many more.
“Country is the hottest format right now and was our greatest opportunity in our number one market,” said Donna Hall, CMG Atlanta Radio VP and General Manager. “We’re now thrilled to bring another exciting choice for country in Atlanta and north Georgia that complements the other great CMG radio brands in the Greater Atlanta area.”
CMG Radio’s other top Georgia brands include Atlanta’s B98.5 FM, KISS 104.1 FM, 97.1 FM The River, and the award-winning WSB News 95.5 FM/AM750. CMG also operates five other stations in Athens, including Power Athens 100.1 FM, Magic 102.1 FM, 103.7 CHUCK FM, Fox News 1340 AM WGAU, and Sports Radio 960 AM The Ref.
