WXEX Shifts To Classic Rock

Classic Rock 92.1 WXEX 1540 Exeter Sanford PortsmouthPort Broadcasting has relaunched Classic Hits 1540 WXEX Exeter, NH/92.1 WXEX-FM Sanford, ME as “Classic Rock 92.1“.

Port began operating WXEX AM/FM via LMA in April. The move to Classic Rock helps differentiate the station from Port’s Oldies “The Legends” 1220 WWSF/102.3 W272CG Sanford.

Port is describing the new format as “The radio station to listen-in to featuring the great hit Rock ‘N Roll tunes from the late 60’s through the 90’s”.

Makes sense, both to move it away from WNBP/WWSF, but also because 105.3/102.1 The Shark has moved more and more in the direction of pop classic hits.

I visited Hampton Beach in July and noticed that even then it was more classic rock leaning, even though still branded as a classic hits station.
