When Mary Berner was named CEO of Cumulus Media she promised more decision making would be made at the local level. One of the first stations to make a branding change locally is 96.5 WJCL Savannah GA, which has reverted to its prior “Kix 96” moniker.
WJCL had been one of the early converts to the corporate “Nash-FM” branding in September 2013 as Cumulus was beginning to roll-out the moniker. “Kix 96” is retaining all the ancillary Nash programming including America’s Morning Show, Nash Nights Live, and Kix Brooks overnights. As with most of Cumulus’ country stations, the only locally originating dayparts are middays and afternoons.
The last time the Savannah market ratings were made public was in Fall 2014 when WJCL trailed Alpha Media’s “Bob 106.9” WUBB by a slim 5.3 to 5.0 share differential. The rebranding of WJCL has yet to affect sister “102.1 Nash Icon” WZAT, which has been rumored to flip away from Country in recent weeks.
“HELL YEAH We’re committed to NASH FM” – Mike McVay
Whoops.
But they’re still airing all of the national NASH shows, so don’t count it out yet.
