Update 11/7/: There could soon be movement on this front. 1069TheZone.com is now live pointing to a blank page titled LOST. A number of other domains were also transferred to the Cox server, however none of them are active. These are: 1069TheBeat.com, 1069TheRef.com, 1069TheRiver.com, Hot1069FM.com, and TheFox1069.com.
Meanwhile, a salesperson for Cumulus’ Houston stations has registered HoustonsRock1069.com and HoustonsRockStation.com.
Original Post 10/24/10: In recent months Clear Channel Modern Rock “94.5 The Buzz” KTBZ Houston has surged to the top of the ratings by having the non-classic rock market to itself. The everything to everyone approach has worked well with little competition, but can a station that plays everything from Third Eye Blind to Pantera succeed with a direct competitor in the format?
Cox Radio will soon put that theory to the test. The company will soon put “106.9 The Point” KHPT to rest; one of the final 80’s & More stations that spread in the early 2000’s. KHPT has hovered near the bottom of the ratings in recent months with a low cume to match. A registration of 1069TheZone.com was made by Cox’s registrar on Friday, while a Twitter account @1069thezone sits awaiting the launch.
Although I like this new 106.9 but, I also loved having my 80’s music as well. Are there any other stations similar to 106.9 The Point? I like variety and don’t always want to listen to Alternative rock. That is why I listend to 94.5 for my hard rock/alternative and 106.9 for my 80’s and 90’s music.
I’m with you Priscilla. I miss The Point. I have since been listening more to 93.7 & 107.5. Of course, the 80s was the best decade!
I remember 104 KRBE in the early 90’s had a session called The Zone or something to that effect. The Buzz is cool wish they added more 80’s to the mix along with todays Alternative. As a mobile DJ myself I have partys that I mix the 80’s, 90’s and todays Rock Alternative. I call Alternative Jam Session of the 80’s 90’s and todays alternative. The Zone is awsome–Thanks
i like the new 106.9 the zone ? i want to hear retro music ?also lets not forget about morrissey or the smiths ?its one hit wonder please respect steven patrick ?thanks
What are you kidding me? this is the best alternative radio I’ve seen anywhere and I’ve lived in alot of places, growing up here heard the best and glad to be back to a great station like this, the other 80’s was just too overplayed and mainstream, it’s nice to wake up to the Fixx “Red Skies” takes me back, thanks you guys keep it up and yes the Smiths would be nice. 😉
