Alpha Media flipped Country “96.7 The Bull” WGBL Gulfport MS to Classic Hip-Hop “G96.7” on Valentine’s Day.
WGBL failed to make a splash with Country, placing twelfth in the market with a mere 1.1 share in the Fall 2015 Nielsen Audio ratings in a three-way battle against Dowdy Broadcasting’s “Kicker 108” WZKX and iHeartMedia’s “K99” WKNN. The new format could help Alpha chip away at market leading Urban AC “JZ 94.5” WJZD.
INSTANT INSIGHT: We do find one thing a little fishy regarding this flip. Alpha and in particular WGBL Program Director Mark ‘Tik Tak’ Allen is usually on top of changes on the digital side. The “G96.7” Facebook page has a logo that doesn’t include the frequency and the G967Radio.com domain linked on that page has yet to be registered by Alpha. Meanwhile the website for “The Bull” is still up untouched. Very un-Alpha like. Which leads me to believe this may be a stunt before yet another change.
