ESPN LA 710 Sets New Local Lineup

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
September 12, 2016

ESPN LA 710 KSPN Los Angeles Rams 100.3 The Sound KSWDESPN O&O “ESPN LA 710” KSPN Los Angeles is expanding its local programming with new morning and afternoon shows starting Wednesday, September 21.

The new lineup will be anchored by Jorge, Keyshawn and LZ in mornings from 6-9am. The show will be hosted by Jorge Sedano, who moves from nights on the national ESPN Radio network where he was co-hosting with Israel Gutierrez. He will be paired with former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson and writer LZ Granderson. Johnson will also serve as a Los Angeles based NFL analyst for ESPN where he has worked since 2007, while Granderson writes for ESPN’s The Undefeated, ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com.

Mychal Thompson and Mike Trudell’s late morning show will expand from 10am-12pm to add the 9:00 hour. Steve Mason and John Ireland remain in place from 12-3pm. Kelvin Washington will move from 5-7am with Travis Rodgers to afternoons where he will team with Marcellus Wiley for 3-7pm. Wiley had been co-hosting with Max Kellerman until Kellerman moved to ESPN2’s First Take last month. ESPN LA Rewind will remain from 7-9pm and national ESPN Radio programming from 9pm-6am.

The Dan Le Batard Show moves from 7-10am on KSPN to a delayed 12-3pm slot on 830 KLAA.

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, ESPNLA 710AM will debut a new, fully live and local weekday lineup – all Los Angeles sports, all the time — highlighted by the launch of a new daily and locally focused morning show – Mornings with Keyshawn, Jorge and LZ – hosted by former USC and NFL star wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, ESPN Radio host Jorge Sedano and writer LZ Granderson. Mornings with Keyshawn, Jorge and LZ will air weekday mornings from 6 – 9 a.m. PT.

In addition, Kelvin Washington, who currently hosts Kelvin & Travis on ESPNLA alongside Travis Rodgers, has been elevated to the highly rated afternoon drive show and will partner with Marcellus Wiley on Afternoons with Marcellus & Kelvin airing weekdays from 3 – 7 p.m.

The Thompson & Trudell program will expand by one hour, airing from 9 a.m. – noon, while Mason & Ireland (noon – 3 p.m.) and ESPNLA Rewind (7 – 9 p.m.) will remain in their current positions on the ESPNLA 710 schedule. The 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. block will feature ESPN Radio Network sports programming.

The revamped schedule will feature a deep roster of local voices who are well-versed in the Los Angeles sports scene, and who fans can depend on to deliver the latest news, analysis and opinions on the hottest topics in the city. As the flagship station for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Rams and USC, ESPNLA will follow all play-by-play broadcasts with extensive local postgame analysis and discussion directly relevant to L.A.-area sports fans, beginning with the morning drive program and continuing straight through 9 p.m. each weekday.

“With an extremely powerful all-live and local lineup, we are ensuring that ESPNLA continues to be the destination station for Los Angeles-area sports fans,” said Scott McCarthy, VP/GM, ESPNLA. “Fans want context and analysis after our L.A. teams play, and our local focus – especially in morning drive – will super-serve them with the best in L.A. sports talk. In fact, from 6 a.m. until noon every weekday, ESPNLA 710AM will be the only radio station in Los Angeles focused entirely on L.A. teams and L.A. sports fans.”

Johnson, who joined ESPN in 2007, has been an NFL analyst on the network’s Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown in Bristol, Conn., since he retired from pro football. The No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft and a member of the Super Bowl XXXVII champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Johnson played 11 NFL seasons for the New York Jets, Bucs, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers.

Sedano, who has more than 16 years of radio broadcast experience, most recently was the co-host of Jorge & Izzy on the ESPN Radio Network. He joined ESPN in 2013 as the host Sedano & Stink show on ESPN Radio, with Mark Schlereth. In March 2015, Sedano began hosting The Sedano Show. His radio career began in Miami in 1999 and has included stints on WAFN-AM until 2001, WINZ-AM (2001-04), and The Ticket Miami (2007-12). He hosted the Miami Heat pre- and post-game shows on WIOD-AM from 2004-2007. Sedano also spent those three years hosting a nationally syndicated show for Fox Sports Radio in Los Angeles (2004-2007).

Granderson is a contributor to ESPN’s The Undefeated. He is also a senior writer and columnist for ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com, as well as a contributor to several ESPN television news and information programs including SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, Around the Horn and SportsNation. Granderson provides commentary on ESPN’s telecasts of two tennis majors – Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. His work has earned critical acclaim, including winning the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) award for online journalism in 2009.

National ESPN Radio shows Mike & Mike and The Dan Le Batard Show will air in their entirety on ESPNLA sister station KLAA 830AM, 3 – 9 a.m. and noon – 3 p.m., respectively.
