University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications has launched CHR “95.3 GHQ” W237EJ/89.1 WUFT-HD3 Gainesville FL.
The new non-commercial station is emphasizing its app over its 250w/157m translator signal to better reach its core college aged audience. The Listener Driven Radio built app features ability to vote up/down songs, leave audio requests, and to compete in contests.
While running jockless, the station is featuring announcements from students about on-campus events and seeking student volunteers looking to “Experience media in a whole new way. You will have the unique opportunity to get hands-on, in-depth exposure to engaging your audience through an over-the-air signal, social media and mobile apps, content creation, and community outreach. Your creativity and initiative in this project will have a positive and lasting impact, not only in our college and on campus, but also in the global media industry. If you are an innovative thinker, hungry to learn, and eager to be mentored by industry leaders; you will fit right in!”
To make room for GHQ, sister Sports “ESPN 850” WRUF Gainesville moved its FM rebroadcasts to AM Revitalization move-in 98.1 W251CG Gainesville. UF’s College of Journalism and Communications features the rare combo of commercial radio operations with WRUF and Country “103.7 The Gator” WRUF-FM and non-commercial with Public News/Talk 89.1 WUFT-FM, Classical “WUFT Classic” 102.7 W274BT Williston/WUFT-HD2, GHQ, and PBS WUFT-TV.
