KICE Bend Joins Parade Of AMs Going Dark

Fox Sports Central Oregon 940 KICE 94.9 KCOE BendSunriver Broadcasting Sports 940 KICE Bend OR will go dark at the end of the month following the sale of its tower site.

The station’s “Fox Sports Central Oregon” programming will continue on 94.9 KCOE Terrebonne. Both stations have swapped call letters. Sunriver leased the station from Gross Communications’ Bend Radio Group which has sold the two towers and land, which is completely surrounded by residential development.

Sunriver owner Chuck Wilkinson told the Bend Bulletin that he is looking for a new site, but a suitable property is hard to find.

After 58 years, 940 AM is going off the air. The tower site at 15th and Butler Market was sold, and the towers and buildings are being removed soon. Thanks Central Oregon.

  1. At least they aren’t just turning in the license right away

  2. The AM band is on life support. 5 years from now, it’ll be a thing of the past. Looks like all the AM stations will move to HD FM.

  3. KBNW-AM 1340 kHz site is just a block away??? Diplex…???

    • KBNW IS diplexed on one of KICE’s two towers. Have reached out to see what they’re doing.
