iHeartMedia Rock “106.7 The D” WDTW-FM Detroit has flipped to Variety Hits while retaining its previous name.
Now positioned as “We Play Anything”, the flip returns the Variety Hits format to Detroit for the first time since Cumulus flipped “93.1 Doug-FM” WDRQ to Country in December 2013. Morning host Alan Cox, who had been doing his show from Rock 100.7 WMMS Cleveland, has been dropped with the format change.
WDTW-FM registered a 2.7 share in the April 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings placing it 18th overall in the market. The new format will position the stations closer to CBS Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC.
Playlist hasn’t changed much. Still mainly focused on rock tracks from the 70’s to 90’s, representative on many classic rock stations. If anything, this is more like a branding change.
