Another personnel change has taken place at iHeartMedia Charlotte as Alternative “106.5 The End” WEND Salisbury NC loses the only Program Director it has known after 22 years at the helm.
Jack Daniel, who has been with WEND since its format debuted in 1995, has exited as PD/Midday host as well as PD of Variety Hits “102.9 The Lake” WLKO weeks shy of his 41st anniversary on-air in the market. Replacing Daniel at WEND is Chuck ‘DZL’ Thompson who currently serves as PD/Midday host at iHeart Alternative “XL 102.1” WRXL Richmond VA. Thompson joined WRXL at the start of 2017 from WEND where he served as APD/Afternoon Host from 2009-2016.
iHeartMedia Charlotte has named Chuck “DZL” Thompson as Program Director and Afternoon Host (3-7pm) for 106.5 The End, Charlotte’s New Rock Alternative, effective immediately.
“DZL is an extraordinary programmer: strategic, creative and driven,” said Meg Stevens, Executive Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Northeast Division. “He knows how to perfectly blend the art and the science of programming. I look forward to his return to the Queen City.”
DZL most recently served as Program Director and Midday Host for XL102 in Richmond, VA. He also previously served 8 years as Assistant Program Director and Music Director for 106.5 The END.
“I love the Queen City and to have the opportunity to continue to help grow our iHeartMedia brands in my honorary hometown has me beaming,” said DZL. “Charlotte is a vibrant and booming city. 106.5 The END has a huge responsibility to respect the history and celebrate and promote the growth of our community. I couldn’t be more excited!”
