Townsquare Media has launched Classic Hits “Nick 97.5” W248BO Tuscaloosa/92.9 WTUG-HD3 Northport AL.
Named for University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban, the station fills the format hole in-between TTI Inc.’s Oldies 1150 WJRD/102.1 W271AM and Classic Rock “Rock 106.3” 1150 WMHZ/106.3 W292DU. W248BO had been carrying the AAA programming of “Birmingham Mountain Radio” that can still be heard on 107.3 W297BF Birmingham/97.3 WPYA-HD2 Gardendale.
Launching with 10,000 songs commercial-free, the station is positioning itself as “Tuscaloosa’s Greatest Hits” focusing on songs of the 1960s through 80s. Dean Severance, Operations Manager for Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa is serving as Brand Manager for the new station. The station launched at 12pm this afternoon with “Sweet Home Alabama” as its first song.
