For the first time since it moved off of 570 AM in 1998, Red Zebra Broadcasting Sports 980 WTEM Washington DC is utilizing “The Team” as its moniker.
WTEM dropped its “ESPN Radio 980” name this morning in favor of “The Team 980“. No programming changes have accompanied the rebranding, as the station will still carry ESPN Radio network programming at night and on weekends.
WTEM launched in 1992 as “570 The Team“. It moved to 980 in 1998 and was rebranded as “Sportstalk 980“. When Red Zebra purchased WTEM in 2008 and merged it with its “Triple X ESPN Radio” trimulcast, the combined operation was rebranded as “ESPN Radio 980“. Red Zebra sold off its other stations to Radio-One, Salem and EMF in 2017
