Cumulus Media completed its format swap of CHR “Hot 93.5” WWKL Mechanicsburg and Country “Nash-FM 106.7” WZCY Hershey/Harrisburg PA at 2pm today.
They also utilized the swap to revamp the new “93.5 Nash-FM” to a gold based presentation focusing on 1990s and 2000s artists along the lines of the Nash Icon brand. The station has dropped the syndicated Ty, Kelly & Chuck morning show in place of PD/afternoon host Chachi Angelo and Jenna Clay. That duo hosted mornings on WZCY until it was replaced by the show formerly known as America’s Morning Show in February 2014. Clay had remained in the Cumulus cluster as News Director.
Original Report 3/2: Cumulus Media will swap frequencies for two of its Harrisburg PA stations on Thursday, March 15.
CHR “Hot 93.5” WWKL Mechanicsburg will move from its current Class A facility to the Class B regional powerhouse that is currently Country “Nash-FM 106.7” WZCY Hershey, while that station goes in reverse.
The move accomplishes two things for Cumulus as it gives WWKL a much stronger signal against iHeartMedia’s “99.3 Kiss-FM” WHKF while bringing the station into the adjacent Lancaster, Reading, and York markets as well. Along the same lines it eliminates the overlap WZCY currently has with sister Country “I105” 105.1 WIOV-FM Ephrata which serves those adjacent markets and rimshots Harrisburg.
In the Fall 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings for Harrisburg, WWKL registered a 3.6 share while WZCY was at a 2.5 which placed it well behind iHeartMedia Country “Bob 94.9” WRBT’s 4.5.
Hot’s 3rd frequency, the station began on 92.1 (now Klove WKHL) in 2005.
