The Jockey Returns To Albany

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 12, 2018

106.1 The X Jockey WAIX AlbanyAfter selling AC “101.3 The Jockey” WJKE Stillwater NY to Educational Media Foundation last fall, Empire Broadcasting has relaunched the brand on 1160 WAIX Mechanicsville/106.1 W291BY Albany.

The new version of the station, which is Hot AC, replaces AAA “106.1 The X” on those frequencies. WAIX previously featured a Hot AC format as “Mix 106.1” from 2014-2016.

The AAA “106.1 The X” format is now heard on 900 WABY Watervliet replacing Adult Standards on that frequency. WABY holds a CP for a translator on 94.1 Clifton Park NY.

I wouldn’t call it a return to the Albany market. The 101.3 signal never had best signal in the Capital Region. Sure they tried but it was a Saratoga County station at best. Better signal North not south.

I listened to the station on my drive from Latham to downtown Albany almost every day on 101.3, sounded pretty good. Yes I will agree it was more for the north country, but I had no issues picking it up in the car.

I would listen via a 1981 ford f100 original radio ao guess that didn’t always pick up best signal

Should mention the AAA format has since been moved to their 900am signal. It replaces Adult Standards Moon Radio
