As WBJZ winds down its 1,047 hours of continuous Rock music stunt, the station announced today it will flip to Rock on Tuesday, June 12 at 3:00 as a simulcast of “Razor 94.7” WZOR Mishicot/Green Bay.
The addition of WBJZ will add coverage of Oshkosh and Fond du Lac but both frequencies will be nothing better than rimshots in Appleton which is covered by sister 105.7 WAPL. WBJZ will compete directly against Radio Plus’ “95.1/96.1 The Rock” 96.1 WTCX Ripon/95.1 W236AG Fond du Lac.
Original Report 5/8: As Woodward Communications prepares to acquire 104.7 WBJZ Berlin WI from Caxambas Corporation, the station has begun stunting with commercial-free Rock.
WBJZ is promoting 1,047 hours of music leading up to the closing of the $720,000 sale. The station had previously been CHR “B104” under an LMA by Marty Schibbelhut’s Martini Media. Schibbelhut had operated WBJZ since 2008 and claimed in his Petition To Deny that although the original agreement expired in 2013, that the option to purchase WBJZ through the Time Brokerage Agreement had been extended through the verbal extensions of the TBA. In his petitions, he seeks to have a state court decide on whether Caxambas violated the terms of their contract by selling to Woodward prior to the FCC approving the license transfer.
In the interim, the “B104” IP and programming continues to broadcast online.
