Roxanne Steele has exited as midday host at Entercom Country 99.5 WYCD Detroit after two and a half years.
Steele joined WYCD in November 2015 after previously filling the same daypart at sister CHR “98.7 AMP Radio” WDZH. She is best known for her 12 year run at “B96” WBBM-FM Chicago and has also worked in Palm Springs and Phoenix at the start of her career.
In a blog post on her personal website announcing her departure, Steele mentioned that she departed for vacation following her air shift on June 14 and was informed of her dismissal following her return.
It’s pretty ironic that my last break on the radio I said I was going on vacation and that I would talk to you soon. Lots of people are reaching out asking if I’m still on vacation. Had I’d known that Thursday June 14th was going to be my last day on WYCD forever, I might have said something else. So to answer your question I’m back from vacation but on a permanent vacation from WYCD. I’m still having a hard time processing that I no longer wake up and go to a job I absolutely loved. This is like a bad dream that doesn’t seem real even though I’ve been through this before. It’s almost like a death or a bad break up, but business is business and it is what it is. Radio is cut throat. I have to move on and let go which is not easy. For the past 3 years I’ve been spending time with an audience that I have a real connection to. That’s special to me and I enjoy it so much! I’m more than a radio host. I’m a friend to many and in return they are a friend to me. I value that relationship that I have with my radio audience and I know I’ll always have it….. just not with WYCD anymore. That is definitely the hard part. I’m not the first radio host that’s disappeared from your dial and I won’t be the last. Many have asked if I’m leaving Detroit. I’m not moving at this time to chase this career. Been there and done that. I’m staying in Detroit and I will bounce back on your radio soon!! For now I’m taking a break and I’m enjoying my summer vacation on the beach!
