The Breakfast Club Debuts On 98.5 The Beat San Antonio

August 23, 2018

98.5 The Beat KBBT San AntonioUnivision Rhythmic CHR “98.5 The Beat” KBBT San Antonio has added Premiere Networks’ syndicated “The Breakfast Club” with Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy for mornings.

The show replaces The Dana Cortez Show, which exited the company at the end of July for a syndication deal with ABC Radio that placed it on Alpha Media’s “Energy 94.1” KTFM in afternoons. The addition of The Breakfast Club also marks a change in strategy for Univision Radio, which until now had not relied on any outside syndication at their stations.

For years San Antonio basketball fans celebrated the Big Three. Now the Alamo City’s radio audience will have its own Big Three. Hip Hop giants Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy are coming to Univision San Antonio’s “The Beat 98.5” announced today Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America. The trio’s legendary show, “The Breakfast Club,” will air Monday through Friday mornings from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. starting today.

“The Breakfast Club” originates from iHeartMedia’s Power 105.1 in New York and airs on nearly 80 stations nationwide. Known as the “World’s Most Dangerous Morning Show,” the Premiere Networks-syndicated program covers pop culture in all its facets, with appearances by such current and future greats of the genre, such as Drake, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, as well as cultural figures from Jennifer Lopez to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hillary Clinton.

“Univision San Antonio’s ‘The Beat 98.5,’ has always been the city’s home for Hip Hop. The program’s addition to The Beat 98.5’s schedule gives the station a morning show with unparalleled stature and magnitude in the world of Hip Hop, and will add even more luster to the station’s already stellar lineup of talent,” said Chris Morris, vice president and general manager of Univision San Antonio.

The show, which has been named the most powerful in Hip-Hop culture for five years in a row, features recurring segments. Yee’s Rumor Report covers pop culture news. In Donkey of The Day, Charlamagne points out recent missteps by public figures. The People’s Choice Mix brings listeners 25 straight minutes of Envy’s award-winning music mixes. The hosts also have an active social media presence, with millions of followers across the full range of platforms.
