iHeartMedia has promoted Scott Davidson to Program Director for AC “My 101.7” WHOF North Canton and “99.7 Canton’s New Country” W259BW/WHOF-HD2 Canton OH.
Davidson currently hosts mornings on WHOF. The Canton native started his career in the 1980s at WDJQ and WNPQ and later worked in Florida at WCLB, WMBX, WOVV and WRMF West Palm Beach and WHYI Miami and WKDD Akron OH.
iHeartMedia announced today that Scott Davidson has been named Program Director for 99.7 Canton’s New Country, #1 for New Country, and My 101.7, The 80s and More, effective immediately. iHeartMedia Akron/Canton has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than six stations comprised of music, talk and news formats.
iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Program Director, Davidson will be responsible for overseeing programming and promotions for 99.7 Canton’s New Country and My 101.7. In addition, he will continue to broadcast weekday mornings on My 101. 7. He will report to Keith Kennedy, Area Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia North Ohio.
“Scott is a proud leader in our community and will continue to keep both 101.7 and 99.7 uniquely Canton,” said Kennedy. “His experience and vast market knowledge make him the perfect candidate and we know he will help contribute to our stations ongoing success.”
Prior to serving as Davidson most recently served as morning show host on My 101.7. He has also held several programming positions throughout his career, including on-air personality at Y-100 in Miami, Florida, on-air personality at WMBX in West Palm Beach, Florida and WKDD in Akron, Ohio as well as music director for Hot 95.9 Canton.
“Stark County is my home and I’m proud to have the opportunity to better our community with two incredible brands that serve Canton like no other,” said Davidson. “The entire iHeartMedia Akron/Canton team has been wonderful and very supportive and I can’t wait to dive right in.”
No disrespect to Scott Davidson – but exactly what is there to program on either station? My 101.7 is jockless. 99.7 is a cut and paste cookie cutter Premium Choice station mirrored exactly the same as The Bull in Youngstown. When first started, My 101.7 had a really upbeat 80s format with some “oh wow” songs. Now, it sounds like a cheaper version of 106.5 The Lake.
Both stations were being programmed by WIMT/102.1 Lima PD Scott Glaser, so it makes sense to hand off oversight to someone already working in the cluster.
And Scott Davidson voicetracks Saturday mornings on WMJI/105.7, has been for awhile now.
