Capital Broadcasting has dropped Conservative Talk on 1430 KLO Ogden/Salt Lake City and is currently stunting with Christmas Music as it prepares to flip to Adult Standards as “Unforgettable 1430” after the holidays.
KLO had been airing an all-syndicated lineup including Hugh Hewitt, Laura Ingraham, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, and Mike Gallagher. The new Standards format will feature programming from Westwood One’s “America’s Best Music” network.
It just occurred to me that the biggest problem with Adult Standards is that many in its target audience can no longer hear well enough to listen!
It seems to me that a lot of the standards stations today are more like soft AC or pre-Beatles oldies stations, as they go less on Glenn Miller and Sinatra and more on doo-wop ballads, Neil Diamond and the Carpenters–without playing Adele or Bruno Mars (although you might some Michael Buble).
The America’s Best Music format that KLO is airing is much more like soft A/C than adult standards. They play 1 or 2 songs from Sinatra, Dean Martin, or a 60’s instrumental each hour, and the rest is mostly soft A/C music from the 1960’s through the 1990’s. Think Barry Manilow, the Carpenters, Steve Tyrell, and Michael Buble, and you’ll have the general idea.
