Q100 Atlanta Rebrands As Q99.7

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
January 2, 2019

Q99.7 99.7 WWWQ Q100 Atlanta Bert ShowEleven years after moving from 100.5 to 99.7, Cumulus Media CHR “Q100” WWWQ Atlanta has rebranded as “Q99.7“.

As we indicated in October 18 Domain Insight, the station had begun emphasizing the frequency on air and tagging many of their social media posts with “Tune In To 99.7 (Q100)” to increase awareness of the frequency. No on-air lineup changes accompanied the name tweak.

INSTANT INSIGHT: In the streaming era, stations need to emphasize where they can be found and utilize that branding everywhere. “Q99.7 Atlanta” says it all whether you are looking to listen on FM, a station phone app, website, or smart speaker.

Might just be splitting hairs here, but couldn’t they have used the same logo, only instead just change the frequency numbers? Some listeners may be thinking this is a new station. Certain people identity a station with a certain logo (I.e. KSHE- FM St. Louis) . Personally I found the Q100 logo rather iconic, considering it was used at both 100.5 and 99.7.

It’s actually pretty weird how much station brands have been recycled over and over in the Atlanta market throughout the years, all in totally different incarnations… Q, Power, Rock, even X.

Yeah, no wonder some people there get a bit confused. I was in Atlanta about a year ago and two ladies swore up and down 100.5 was still a top 40 station. When I informed them that WWWQ had moved to 99.7, they accused me of lying and said that 99.7 was a rock station. In fairness, they had only been back in Atlanta for a few days after living in Dallas for a few years, but still…
