The Twenty Joins CHR Battle In Fort Wayne

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
June 21, 2019

99.5 The Twenty FM W255AI Fort Wayne WAJI-HD3After moving its previous Alternative format to 102.3 WGBJ Auburn, Sarkes Tarzian has launched CHR “99.5 The Twenty-FM” on 99.5 W255BY/WAJI-HD2 Fort Wayne IN.

Positioning as “All The Hits, All The Time”, the new format will run commercial-free through the summer and feature what it calls the “Top 20 hottest songs” as the playlist will be limited to just the twenty biggest hits. Core artists are listed as including Halsey, Katy Perry, Panic at the Disco, Khalid, Post Malone, and The Jonas Brothers.

The launch joins a Fort Wayne Pop Hits battle to Adams Radio CHR “Hot 107.9” WJFX and Federated Media Adult CHR 97.3 WMEE.

20 currents and nothing else? Sounds like a revival of the Hot Hits format.

Hot Hits was only successful because there was no Spotify or Apple Music at that time. They need to interject some personality into that station quickly if they plan to offer something that an AI-generated algorithm can’t.

Sounds like the “20 on 20” station that was on XM a few years back. I think it got carried over to SiriusXM, but I don’t believe it’s around anymore.
